Pentax Optio M60 Digital Camera

Pentax has just launched new Optio M60 compact digital camera. This camera comes with 10-megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom, 2.5-inch large LCD display and 8 shooting scene modes. The 8 scenes include Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, Night Scene Portrait, Standard, Flower, Sport and the new Candlelight. This camera is an improved version of its predecessor, M50.

The new camera is making use of Advanced Auto Picture mode and the camera would be able to detect the condition of subject and select the scene mode automatically. Pentax also strengthen the face recognition function in this camera which enable the detection of 32 faces at once with high-speed (0.03 sec) AF and AE function.

Apart from that, it comes with Smile Capture application function (automatically distinguishes smile and takes photos) and Blinking Detection (gives warning to photographer if subject blinked during shooting). It also features Digital SR (Shake reduction that reduce camera shakes) by boosting ISO (up to 6400) to capture more light in shorter shutter speed.

Pentax M60 comes in 3 colours, i.e. silver, pink and blue. It will be released on 22 August at price around USD 180.

Running an Application Which Is Incompatible with Window Vista

If you are a Window Vista user, you might sometimes encounter application incompatible problems especially when you don’t have the relevant drivers. When this problem happens, a window will pop out and inform you that you can no longer run the program as the “.dll” files are not available in System 32. This is quite annoying especially when you need the program to finish your work under tight deadlines.

Window Vista actually features a compatibility function to address the problem. If you cannot run the program under Vista, what you can do is right click the “.exe” file and choose properties. Click on to the compatibility tab. Now choose Window XP or the earlier version of your OS that is able to run the program from the drop down menu. Make sure you check the box “Run this program as an administrator”. Finally click “OK” and run your program again. The incompatible problem should have been resolved.

Everybody who knows about the new iPhone applications knows about Super Monkey Ball and MLB At Bat. But after dropping all kinds of dough on a new iPhone and a 3G service plan, you can save some cash and get these great free programs ASAP.

Note: We tested all of these apps on a first-generation iPhone with the 2.0 software installed, so data uploaded and downloaded at EDGE speeds. You'll also notice that this list is short on location-based apps such as Loopt and Whrrl. That doesn't mean they're bad--it's just that the reviewer values privacy and finds them a little creepy.

AirMe and Exposure

One of a few Flickr front-ends for the iPhone, AirMe outdoes Exposure (another free iPhone app for Flickr) by allowing you to upload pics directly from your iPhone to your Flickr account. Results are instantaneous: You snap a pic with your iPhone camera, AirMe geotags it (if you want it to), and it's on your Flickr page within a minute. On the other side of the fence, Exposure lets you browse your Flickr photosets, see photos that have been taken close to your current location (again, if you want it to), and basically presents a iPhone-friendly front end to Flickr. It did crash a few times during testing, however.

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)

Finally, a chat app built for the iPhone. The iPhone AIM client worked like a charm right off the bat, but has been crashing a lot ever since. When it works, it gives you access to your AOL Instant Messenger buddy lists, letting you "OMG," "LOL," and "BRB" your commute time away. Is an iPhone-friendly version of Yahoo Messenger--or, better yet, multiprotocol access to all your accounts via Trillian and Meebo--hot on the trail of this mobile IM app? Let's hope so.

AOL Radio

Stuck in Houston, but your favorite sports radio station is in Detroit? Want to hear what songs are hot in Hartford when your flight is delayed in Denver? AOL Radio scratches that itch, to the tune of more than 350 radio stations from across America. It's yet another audio-streaming app that works staggeringly well at EDGE speeds; during testing I didn't encounter any streaming interruptions at all. Don't think of it as the "death of radio," think of it as a new distribution platform for radio stations everywhere.

MLB's play-by-play scoreboard app that is featured on iTunes costs just $5, but I'd recommend that sports lovers opt for the free SportsTap app instead, since it gives you instant access to all live sports, not just baseball. But the Baseball iPhone app lets you tap into the statistical database of baseball history. Need to know how many doubles Marty Barrett hit in 1986? It's a few taps away. Want to know Urban Shocker's career ERA? That's there, too. It's like having the entire Baseball Encyclopedia right there on your iPhone. We only wish it had team-based stats and year-by-year standings, not just individual stats. Still, this is a must-have app for any baseball aficionado.

Eventful

Configuring your alerts is a bit of a chore (the Eventful developers may want to consider making the categories "opt-in" by default instead of "opt-out"), but once this app is up and running, Eventful will let you know who's coming to town and what's going on in your neck of the woods. Concerts, book signings, live sports, theater, public speakers, you name it.

Evernote

Need a centralized location for all the notes, photos, and voice recordings created on your iPhone? Evernote lets you save documents and media files on a Web storage platform that you can access anywhere. If you're planning on using your iPhone for taking a lot of notes or snapping a bunch of pictures while you're out and about, this is a must-have app for saving everything to a centralized location that you can reach from any Web-connected device.

State Bank tightens rules for FX agents

HA NOI — The State Bank of Viet Nam has tightened the criteria for becoming a foreign exchange agent in a bid to ensure that their activities are designed to meet the needs of the expat community and tourists and to deter currency speculation.

Under Decision No 21/2008/QD-NHNN issued by State Bank Governor Nguyen Van Giau last Friday, FX agents must be located close to three- to five-star hotels, airline booking offices, tourism areas, shopping malls, commercial centres or international border gates.

The State Bank has also set minimum infrastructure, human resource, administration and security levels for money changers.

FX agents and credit institutions must sign new contracts. Their partners have three months after the decision’s publication in the official gazette to end existing contracts or FX licences will expire.

Credit institutions have also been ordered to monitor more closely the activities or their agents.

The new decision states that any financial institution can act as a bank’s agent. However, each bank can only have one agent.

The new decision is designed to meet the needs of foreign tourists, who are also a valuable source of foreign currency.

The decision does not affect the foreign exchange activities of banks, only their agents.

Over the past five weeks there have been dramatic fluctuations in the money markets.

A senior official at the central bank’s Foreign Exchange Management Department told Viet Nam News that the new regulations were well-thought out and should put FX agents back on the right track.

There are 3,591 FX tables, of which 2,294 are for banks and 1,297 are for agents, governor Giau told reporters in Ha Noi earlier this month.

About 941 FX tables are running in Ha Noi, of which 687 tables are operated directly at banks, while 251 tables are held by authorised dealers. HCM City has 1,219 FX tables, half of which are run directly by banks.
